Lot 1155

Hong Kong, 1968-73 watermark upright Bauhinia 65c. on glazed paper strip of three, the left pair variety imperforate between, unmounted mint, vertical fold between stamps in variety pair (that produced the variety), roughly separated at upper left due to misalignment of perfs., otherwise fine to very fine, unique; also included are two multiples (blocks of 17 and ten) from the same sheet (including one from which this strip was in the upper left corner) showing diagonal vertical misperforation and other perforation errors from the sheet have been folded over before perforating. The only horizontal imperforate between pair among the Hong Kong issued stamps of any reign. S.G. 253b var.
Estimate HK$ 50,000 - 60,000

This error was produced as the left part of this sheet became folded over after the sheet had been printed and gummed (and before it was perforated). The folding was slightly diagonal from northeast to southwest. At the very top of the multiples, the fold was inside where the left hand perforations would have been, resulting in the imperforate between pair, when the sheet went through the perforating machine, as the left side was not perforated. The folded over stamp next to it (the left stamp in the imperforate between pair) and the other stamps in that vertical column likewise show diagonal horizontal perforations from the perforations have been applied to the folded over sheet. The stamps below show double perforations, one diagonal, likewise resulting from the sheet being perforated folded.

Realized HK$ 97,750
