Hong Kong, Holliday Wise & Co: 1896 (9 Apr.) large part printed envelope (reduced at left) to Manchester (11.5) bearing 1882-96 10c. violet on red and 30c. and 1891 50c. on 48c. and $1 on 96c., both with additional Chinese character surcharge, all with part "Holliday, Wise & Co./Hong Kong" violet h.s. and tied by "Hong Kong/C" c.d.s., address partially erased and rewritten, vertical and horizontal folds (one of which crosses the 50c.), very rare and attractive usage of the $1 on 96c. S.G. 38, 39, 49, 50. Sell I-62c (illustrated).

Air Commodore Gurevitch records only five covers and part covers with the $1 on 96c. (which does not include this cover) and noted that the only complete covers were philatelic.

Mr. Orsetti noted that this cover also shows that the security markings were sometimes applied on mint sheets of stamps, before they were applied, in order to protect them from being stolen and resold.
