China, 1898 (14 Mar.) registered envelope to Yen Bay, Tonkin (27.3) (embossed "Custom House/Lungchow" seal on flap, opened out for display) via Haiphong (17.3), Hanoi (18.3) and Viettri (21.3) bearing C.I.P. ½c. horizontal pair, 1c. vertical strip of three, 2c. and 4c. (4, one defective at foot), cancelled by "Lungchow" dollar dater in brown, in combination with French Indochina 5c. and 10c. pairs (both on reverse) and 25c. cancelled by "Lang-son/Tonkin" c.d.s., showing unframed "R" and framed "R" h.s. adjacent, very fine and spectacular registered usage.

A MARVELOUS REGISTERED COILING DRAGON USAGE WITHIN INDO-CHINA FROM THE IMPERIAL POST OFFICE IN LUNGCHOW.

The 22 cents registered six times rate. The registration fee paid at the U.P.U. rate, while prior to 1899, Lungchow mail matter was treated as internal mail and, therefore, postage was only charged at domestic rates (2c. per ½ ounce). China 2 cents = French 5 centimes (25 centimes = 10 cents for registration + 30 centimes = 12 cents postage).
