Hong Kong, 1898 (24 May) registered envelope to D. Melnikoff, Foochow (arrival c.d.s. on reverse) bearing 10c. on 30c. grey-green (2), one without Chinese character surcharge and the other variety large Chinese character surcharge, both with interpane margin at left, each tied by "Hong Kong/B" c.d.s., with "R" circular h.s. adjacent, envelope restored at lower right corner and some light age spotting, an exceptional franking being the only cover recorded with both of these rare varieties, as well as only one of five recorded covers bearing the large Chinese character surcharge and likewise one of only five recorded covers with the 10c. on 30c. without the Chinese character surcharge.
