Lot 1451 China (People's Republic), 1951 (20 June) returned registered airmail envelope (with original letter) from Halle, East Germany to Hunan via Beijing (14.7) and Guangzhou (29.7) bearing East Germany 10pf. and 80pf. (5), returned via Guangzhou (20.8) showing "Inconnu" (unkown) and framed "Retour" h.s. (underneath handwritten direction slip), with original German registration slip on reverse, faults but very interesting usage.

Captain Harold Fischer, c/o Chinese Red Cross Society, Peking to Philadelphia, bearing Regular issue $200 and $2000 cancelled in Peking (8.2), with Guangzhou transit c.d.s. (12.2) on reverse, fine and scarce. Yang R37, R49.

Captain Fischer was an American Korean War ace, credited with downing 11 enemy MIG jets. He was shot down on 7 April 1953 and captured by the Chinese in Chinese territory. He was thus one of the few American P.O.W.s held in a prison camp in China, near Mukden (Shenyang), Manchuria, until his release in May 1955.
