Lot 3565 () Chinese Local Post: Shanghai, 1866 Large Dragons Antique numerals "Candareens" in the plural 3ca. red-brown (Pr. #45) pair, left stamp with value "3" horizontal and close to frameline at foot, right stamp with "3" tilted and placed higher up as normal, light horizontal creasing in margin between stamps and tiny thin in margin at top right corner, very fine and rare. Livingston 20b.

ALTHOUGH BOTH THESE VARIETIES WERE LISTED BY DR. CHOW, THIS IS THE ONLY SE-TENANT MULTIPLE WE HAVE SEEN. IT IS GENERALLY BELIEVED THAT THE LARGE DRAGONS SHEETS OF SIX WERE PRINTED FROM RIGHT TO LEFT, SO THE LEFT STAMP WOULD, THEREFORE, REPRESENT A CORRECTION.

Lot 3590 Chinese Local Post: Chungking, Postage Dues : 1896 (8 July) large registered parcel address label from Shanghai to the Japanese Consulate at Chungking bearing 1893 Arms 2c. and 1896 surcharged 4c. on 15c. and 6c. on 20c., cancelled by "Registered/Shanghai/O" squared circle d.s., another strike with "Registered/No. 2577" framed d.s. adjacent, "Ichang" bilingual framed transit d.s. of "7 Jul 96" (day inserted by hand but most probably meant to be 17 July) in violet, with Chungking Postage Dues 1895 overprint 8ca. (3, one has corner defect) and 24ca. applied on arrival and cancelled by "Chungking" bilingual framed d.s. (26.7) in violet, central crease and age spotting, the 6c. on 20c. trimmed at right upon opening, nevertheless a remarkable Postage Due usage and probably the largest such franking with the Chungking Postage Dues.
