Lot 1666 o China, 1885 Small Dragon, an interesting selection of 5ca. multiples, comprising 1885 clean-cut perforation 12½ interpanneau block of twelve (rare), block of eight and horizontal strip of four, and 1885 rough perforation 12½ pane of twenty, block of fourteen, block of seven, blocks of six (2) and horizontal strip of four, all with Tientsin seal cancellations in blue, faults or defects, nevertheless a scarce assembly of large multiples ideal for plating study. Lot 1667 China, 1885 Small Dragon 3ca. mauve, small holes perforation, Setting II, block of four from the top left corner of the sheet, unused with much original gum, toned, light diagonal gum bend and splitting in sheet margin. An exceptionally rare block of the clean-cut perforation 12½ with the small hole perforations which distinguish it as such. Chan 14.

Lot 1676 China, 1885 Small Dragon 3ca. mauve, small hole perforations, Setting II, Pane 1, a marvelous top sheet margin block of nine (3 x 3), position 7 [10] short bar of "Dah" and position 12 [9] break in waves, deep rich colour, sharp impression, near perfect centring, very fine unused with much original gum, even streaks of gum toning on reverse, the paper having retained a remarkable overall degree of freshness from the face, lower row of stamps has light horizontal crease at foot. An exceptionally rare and magnificent block with the small hole perforations which are usually characteristic of the clean-cut perfs. Chan 17.

The small hole perforations are typically rough in places due to the small perforating pins, which quickly became blunted and, therefore, made separation of the stamps difficult.

IN ESSENCE, THE ABOVE CARD WAS MAILED FROM NEWCHWANG ON THE LAST DAY OF THE 1 CANDARIN POSTCARD RATE. THE RATE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY CHANGED TO 2 CANDARINS, OF WHICH THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY SEVEN CARDS KNOWN.
