Lot 870 China, 1897 (1 Oct.) I.C.P. 1c. stationery card to Hong Kong, cancelled by "Peking" dollar dater in blue, and showing "Shanghai" dollar dater (7.10) in blue, fine and the earliest date recorded for this card, which is the recognised first day of issue for the postal stationery of China. A highly important item for the collector of postal stationery and irrefutably the key card for any collection.

THERE WAS ONE OTHER CARD USED ON THE SAME DAY IN THE LIONEL PRESCOTT COLLECTION, BUT IT WAS UNADDRESSED AND CANCELLED BY FAVOUR. THERE ARE A FEW SUCH FAVOUR CANCELLATION CARDS RECORDED FROM PEKING, AS WELL AS ONE FROM SHANGHAI DATELINED "JUNE 1897" AND ADDRESSED TO HANGCHOW WITHOUT ARRIVAL C.D.S.
